Bach's Goldberg variations as a pastimeR. Führer
Who isn't familiar with the legend surrounding the creation of the Goldberg Variations? The story goes that Count Hermann Carl von Keyserlingk asked his friend Johann Sebastian Bach to compose a piece of music to cheer him up during his sleepless nights. The result was not a gentle, lulling lullaby - no - it was 30 variations that require special skill due to their formidable technical challenges and are now part of the standard repertoire of Baroque music.
Reinhard Führer takes on this virtuoso and technically demanding task in the parish church of Schönbühel - an atmospheric gem that opens up a new sound space for the Internationale Barocktage Stift Melk.
