From the railway station, you can walk (approx. 10 minutes) or take a taxi to Melk Abbey.

In order to make it easier for our guests to attend events on Fridays and Saturdays, we are now offering a night train on these days from Melk to Vienna in partnership with Austrian Federal Railways, the Transport Association for the Eastern Regions and the State of Lower Austria.

Route to the Abbey (approx. 15 min. walk)

• Take Lindestraße eastwards towards Hummelstraße.
• Turn left onto Hummelstraße towards Jakob-Prandtauer-Straße.
• Continue along Jakob-Prandtauer-Straße until you reach Wiener Straße.
• At the bakery Teufner GmbH, take the second road on the left onto Abt-Berthold Dietmayr-Straße

There is parking in the large Abbey carpark. From here, Melk Abbey can be reached by a set of steps or a footpath (a few minutes’ walk); there is access for those with reduced mobility via the new lift.

Melk Abbey offers access to all those with reduced mobility. However, the Baroque Garden Pavilion can only be reached by steps.

If the route from the Abbey carpark is nevertheless too difficult, it is possible to arrange access in advance by driving directly to the delivery yard. Please inform us when buying tickets if you need to use this option. Please note that your vehicle must be parked elsewhere after arrival.

From Vienna or Linz
Journey time approx. 60 minutes

• A1 motorway, Melk exit
• At the roundabout, take the second exit onto road B3a towards Melk. Drive for 1.7km.
• Bear right and take road B1 in the direction of Melk Nord/Pöchlarn/Schönbühel/Wachau Rechtes Donauufer/Industriegebiet. Drive for 313m.
• Turn right onto road B1 in the direction of Pöchlarn/Melk West/Stift Melk. Drive for 165m.
• At the roundabout, take the third exit onto Dietmayrstraße in the direction of Stift Melk. You will reach the main Abbey carpark after 898 m.

From the left bank of the River Danube (Wachau, Waldviertel)

• Take the road B3/B3a over the Danube bridge, then follow the signs for Stift Melk.

The International Baroque Days at Melk Abbey strive to organize the festival in such a way as to ensure barrier-free and uncomplicated access for all people. However, since our events take place to a large extent in historic venues, this is unfortunately not always possible. We ask that you call the ticket office if you have any questions about accessibility. In this way, we can organize your visit individually, from arrival to seat assignment.

If you have any special wishes or requirements concerning your seat, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can respond to them in the best possible way.

Melk Abbey

Melk Abbey offers barrier-free access for all people with walking difficulties. If the way from the 'large monastery parking lot' is too arduous, there is the possibility to drive to the 'small monastery parking lot' (Abt-Berthold-Dietmayr Straße 1, 3390 Melk, a branch of the Wiener Straße) after prior notification. At the barrier, please ring the bell for 'Stiftspforte'. Please let us know when you buy your tickets if you need this possibility. We ask for your understanding that the vehicle must be re-parked after accessing the Wirtschaftshof.

Facilities suitable for the disabled:
Toilets coming from the large parking lot, next to restaurant.
Toilets in the Torwartlhof (1st courtyard)
Toilets next to the Kaiserstiege

Accessibility when visiting the monastery:
There are areas in Melk Abbey where access cannot be converted to be barrier-free. However, with the help of the staff of Melk Abbey, it is possible to visit all areas open to tourism and included in the admission price via other routes - most of which are not accessible to the public. Please contact the information staff (first courtyard on the left) if you have a wheelchair user or severely disabled person in your group. 
Kaiserstiege / access to the Abbey Museum: stairs, barrier-free by elevator (please ring the bell)
Library: spiral staircase leads into the church, barrier-free by lift (not directly at spiral staircase, please inform supervisor)
Exit from the collegiate church: via Kolomanihof, barrier-free via cloister (please inform supervisor)

Barrier-free access is available in the Nordbastei and the Abbey Restaurant.

Other venues
The baroque garden pavilion is accessible only by stairs.
