Marienblumen
The two sides of the rose - Mitglieder des Concentus Musicus Wien - St. Gottfried - A. MonserratNo fewer than eight different flowers are dedicated to Mary, each standing for one of her facets. The rose, as queen among them, has always symbolised Mary as Queen of Heaven. It is the flower of love, but with its thorns also embodies the suffering of the sorrowful Mother of God. Both aspects – maternal love and fathomless grief at the loss of her son – are poured into a concert programme that goes straight to the heart by Stefan Gottfried, ambitious young mezzosoprano Anita Monserrat and members of Concentus Musicus Wien. But the music in the Kolomanisaal also lets more lively sounds blossom, when Stefan Gottfried plays from the ›Musical Flower Book‹ on the harpsichord. A many-coloured musical bouquet is guaranteed on this Whitsun Monday morning!
