Leyersederin 1761
Attention: Relocation to the baroque cellarEver heard of Anna Maria Leyersederin? No? Then let’s get to know her together! In 1761 this Bavarian musician and composer compiled the only large-scale surviving dance music collection of this period that is signed by a woman and is thus likely to have been collected, transcribed and presumably in large part composed by her. This is almost a sensation in itself – because most women in this period who made art did so anonymously, often under the name of their husbands or a male pseudonym. Which makes this outstanding work all the more extraordinary! The pieces contained in it, most of them for two voices, are also a rare source for two-part harmony in the ›pop music of the 18th century‹ (© Schikaneders Jugend). The unconventional ensemble Schikaneders Jugend embark on a treasure hunt from the site where this manuscript was discovered that takes them across the monarchy of the time, past village inns and peasant weddings, inviting the audience to dance, drink or simply enjoy the entertainment.
