Ein musikalisches Portrait
Winners’ concert of the 11th International Johann Heinrich Schmelzer CompetitionThere was a little foretaste of their special abilities at last year’s festival, when the young violinist Han Sol Lee Eo overwhelmed the audience and jury of the last Schmelzer Competition with her musicality and sonic brilliance. Now listeners can look forward to spending more time enjoying her excellence. In her concert programme, Han Sol Lee Eo takes a unique musical journey through the life of the Virgin Mary. Drawing on works by various Baroque composers, the concert traces Mary’s life on an emotional and spiritual level. The violin stands in the centre: it embodies Mary’s voice and expresses her joys, cares and experiences. From gentle, meditative sounds to powerful, passionate passages, the music draws a many-layered portrait of Mary, both as a symbol of faith and as a person.
