Harmonien des Himmels
A composer writes to Mary - H. Kurosaki, V. Böhm, J. Pesek, D. Bergmüller, A. Marie Dragosits›If the world does not care for this music, it is enough for me that you care for it, you who love the heart more than reason.‹ In this preface to her sonatas, Isabella Leonarda (1620-1704) wasn’t addressing some rich patron – no, she was writing to the Mother of God. The world did care for the music; and here at the Baroque Festival, interpreted by a master of his craft, the piece will once again provide musical delight. Moving and expressive – this is a fitting description for the art of Isabella Leonardas, one of the first woman composers not only to write instrumental music but also to publish it under her own name. But there’s more. Hiro Kurosaki and his ensemble complement these sonatas with works by Johann Sebastian Bach that the Baroque composer-genius placed in a close relationship to the Passion of Christ.
