Claudio Monteverdi: Vespro della Beata Vergine
A composition as ticket to ride: Monteverdi’s Vespers for the Blessed Virgin secured him a job in Venice, where as director of music at St. Mark’s Basilica he wrote musical history and contributed to making the city a magnet for composers and musicians from all over Europe. A one-way ticket, as it would turn out.
After his debut at Whitsun 2017 it was clear that Pablo Heras-Casado just had to return! And now it’s time. The star conductor is keeping faith not just with audiences in Melk but also with Claudio Monteverdi. Once again taking to the lectern of the Concentus Musicus Wien, the Festival’s orchestra in residence, he joins a selection of singers and the Ensemble Aedes to open the Melk Abbey International Baroque Festival 2021 with this monumental work!
