Venice, 1716. On his stately, multi-year tour, the young prince-elector Friedrich August of Saxony stops off in Antonio Vivaldi’s hometown. His travelling court includes the composers Georg Pisendel and Jan Dismas Zelenka. Months fly by; musical skills are swapped; friendships sealed and the courtly life in Saxony enriched with new artistic figures.
The audience of this Whitsun matinee will be similarly enriched with a programme by Alfredo Bernadini, who with his Ensemble Zefiro has already been a guest in Melk with several brilliant concerts. His own travelling companions are these same composers from the prince-elector’s circle who met during this stage of the journey.
