Rome as the cradle of the concerto grosso

Concentus Musicus Wien

Stefan Gottfried, conductor

Grand Tour: for young people in the Baroque age, this journey was the gateway to worldliness and knowledge. The idea has prompted the launch of a new project inviting young musicians to head for Melk, where they too can stock up on new inspirations.

Stefan Gottfried and the Concentus Musicus Wien take on a mentorship: within just a few days, they’ll bring together students from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW) to form an ensemble. The music they’ll perform together follows the bombastic musical philosophy of Baroque Rome, from where the concerto grosso began its conquest of the rest of Europe. A bridge to the present is built with a premiere of a work by Gerald Resch.
