Internationale Barocktage Stift Melk Abbey Melk, Stiftskirche

FINAL CONCERT

ROME AS CRADLE OF THE CONCERTO GROSSO

The concerto grosso: a microcosm in which smaller groups of instruments are confronted with something bigger, complement each other or behave antagonistically, in which individuals sometimes come to the fore, enter into dialogue and are reabsorbed into the group. In truth, a metaphor for every kind of social coexistence. The members of the newly formed Accademia Melicensis are embarking on a journey: not only from many lands to Melk but also from the individual to a greater whole. Musicians from international universities set off for the Baroque Festival and in just a few days become an ensemble. The inspiration behind it is Stefan Gottfried and members of the Concentus Musicus Wien, who have spent a weekend together developing a programme focussed on the concerto grosso. With a world premiere of a work by Gerald Resch, the final concert of the festival features a reaching of the hand from the baroque to contemporary music.
