A significant legacy: with a repertoire based around Christoph Graupner and his contemporaries, the Darmstädter Barocksolisten remember the court ensemble of Landgrave Ernst Ludwig, which enjoyed a musical supremacy for which it had Graupner to thank. While the landgrave’s attention wandered around the musical centres of Europe, it was down to Graupner to bring together these cities’ special qualities and form the orchestra into one of the most important in the German-speaking lands.

While still young, the conductor Daniel Cohen has risen to the heights of the conducting profession. In Sofia Prina he has found a singer considered one of the most sought-after specialists for Vivaldi and Handel. Together with the Darmstädter Barocksolisten and the soprano Shakèd Bar, they now take on the legacy of Christoph Graupner and bring the late-Baroque flair of the court of Darmstadt back to life.
