The ensemble La Risonanza led by Fabio Bonizzoni has performed works by Georg Friedrich Handel many times already at the Baroque Festival. The Milan-based ensemble today brings the composer Dietrich Buxtehude to Melk. Buxtehude was not only a contemporary of Handel but also a major role model for Johann Sebastian Bach, who once walked 450 kilometres to hear the organ virtuoso. And today we know every step was worth it!

Some 400 years later, the delights of the Baroque Festival bring guests via sea, air and land to the Abbey as it transforms into a palace of sound. Buxtehude’s ‘Membra Jesu nostri’, devoted to Christ the King, forms the centrepiece of the programme. It impressively deploys a wealth of forms and means of expression of the two great masters.
