Regardless of their destination, their particular line-up, the programme they’re presenting, the venue where you happen to experience them, their musical compass points to success: L’Arpeggiata. Founded and directed by the Austrian lutenist and harpist Christina Pluhar, this ensemble’s fascinating and creative projects are conquering one concert hall after another, and winning more and more awards. The programme they’re curating for Melk places a truly majestic instrument at its heart: the harp. As one of the oldest of all instruments, it was winning over palaces and euphoric audiences with its glamour and elegance way back in baroque Italy. Composers and players – often in the same person – were elevated to the Olympus of art. The works we’ll hear in this concert include some that have lapsed into obscurity but have lost none of their charisma.
