Michael Schade

Biography

Hailed as one of the world’s leading tenors, German-Canadian Michael Schade performs regularly on every major opera stage in Europe and North America. In 2007, the Vienna State Opera has awarded him with the title Austrian Kammersänger. He has also earned a reputation as a stellar concert and recital soloist with his vast repertoire, performing with the leading international orchestras under renowned conductors such as Bychkov, Chailly, Harding, Jansons, Jordan, Manacorda, Muti, Nagano, Nézet-Séguin, Rattle, Thielemann, Ticciati and Welser-Möst which has been documented on numerous appraised recordings. Michael Schade had a close artistic relationship with Nikolaus Harnoncourt. He is the artistic director of the Hapag-Lloyd Stella Maris Vocal Competition and of the Internationale Barocktage Stift Melk. In 2017 Michael Schade was granted the title Officer to the Order of Canada (O.C.).
